Vasant Vihar High School, Thane News

                Vasant Vihar High School, Thane won the recently concluded Under-16 level of the Bhandari Trophy by defeating KC Gandhi School, Kalyan. Sixteen teams from Thane district battled it out in the tournament.







In the finals between KC Gandhi and Vasant Vihar High School, Vasant Vihar won the toss and opted to bat.



Vasant Vihar struggled to score 138, with their top scorer Soham Surve making 34. Surve, who is also the wicketkeeper for the Vasant Vihar side, ensured some respectability to the score. Tushar Deshpande of KC Gandhi School grabbed five wickets for 33 runs.


In reply, KC Gandhi School managed to score only 124, thanks to intelligent bowling by Karsh Kothari, who took two wickets for 33 runs and Ronit Ramesh, who grabbed three wickets for 25. Surve, who won the man-of-the-match award for his fine all-round display, managed three stumping and was involved in a run out as well.


The overall tournament saw some good batting by Smith Fernandes and Karan Naidu from St John's High School, who scored 133 and 144 runs respectively, and Prasad Bhuvad from SV Joshi School, who aggregated 192 runs. The best bowlers of the tournament were Tushar Deshpande from KC Gandhi High School, who claimed 18 wickets and Kedar Nandiwedkar from Vasant Vihar High School, who grabbed 11 wickets.


There was good bowling in the series and Tushar Deshpande from KC Gandhi High School who claimed 18 wickets for 111 runs and Kedar Nandiwedkar from Vasant Vihar High School who got 11 wickets for 55 runs. They were awarded the best bowlers awards.

    Dear Mr. Rathod, It was a pleasant surprise to see the article on N.T. Kelkar Cricket Tournament. My son REVANT PUNNA was adjudged as the Best Batsman of the tournament. However, his name has been mis-spelled as Revan Tunna. Hats off to VVHS Cricket team and their coach Mr. Kiran Salgaokar. I understand they have won this tournament 12 times in the past 18 years! -
